Fair Oaks, California – February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Causes

Tooth decay occurs when bacteria from foods and inside your mouth make acids that eat away at your teeth.

Symptoms

Tooth decay primarily has no symptoms until the bacteria enters the second layer of your tooth called dentin. This is where the live nerve endings of your tooth are. Bacteria enters the dentin and then you start feeling the symptoms. If bacteria moves through the dentin layer into the nerve chamber, sever pain and infection can occur.

Treatment

Depending on how eroded your tooth is from bacteria, a simple filling can be placed to substitute the decayed area. Other treatment may be needed to restore your tooth or teeth to its proper form.
